In the mid-1600s, the scholar Filippo San Martino, Count of Agliè, turned the ancient 12th century castle into a stately home, that was then purchased by the Carlo Emanuele III of Savoy in the 1764 and rebuilt based on a project by Ignazio Birago di Borgaro.
In 1825 Carlo Felice ordered additional modifications to improve its appearance and the castle became a leisure estate for the royal family.
The Palace has more than 300 rooms, including a vast ballroom with frescoes and stuccoes, original paintings and a precious collection of archeological findings.
It is surrounded by an English and an Italian garden and by a large park with very old trees and a beautiful fountain decorated with 18th century statues.
Visitors can access the Castle’s apartments, the gardens and the park.
