On the occasion of the Exposition of the Holy Shroud in Turin, an exhibition will be held at La Venaria Reale to investigate Christ’s physical dimension in Western art. The display includes paintings and sculptures from the early Christian Age to Baroque. The exhibition celebrates this important religious event, providing a vast cultural context for the Exposition.
Among the works on display are several masterpieces from leading museums, churches and collections in Italy and in Europe. The visiting itinerary is organised with the aim to suggest the breadth of the Christian concept of “the body of Christ” as well as its functional role in the religious rite. More than 150 works will be on display, including masterpieces by Andrea Mantegna, Luca della Robbia, Giovanni Bellini, Antonio del Pollaiolo, Correggio, Titian, Paolo Veronese, Tintoretto, Annibale and Ludovico Carracci, Guercino, Donatello, Rubens and Michelangelo with the magnificent wooden crucifix from Florence.
