Knights. From the Templars to Napoleon

Stories of crusaders, soldiers, gentlemen of the court

Curated by Alessandro Barbero and Andrea Merlotti

From the castles in the Holy Land to the European Courts, from seafaring galleys sailing from the shores of Malta to Napoleon’s battlefields, Knightly Orders have characterised almost a thousand years of European history. This exhibition spans from the Templar and Teutonic Orders to the orders of merit. It is a journey across Europe, from the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment, set in the newly restored Rooms of the Arts in the Upper Floors of the Reggia. The display includes works by Titian, Carracci, Rubens, and Goya, rare manuscripts, wonderful armours, precious jewels and the mysterious “Templecombe Head”.
